NEW YORK -- Madonna wasn't going to let lighting and technical issues keep her from performing at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. A statement from publicist Liz Rosenberg said construction of the singer's stage came to a halt Wednesday due to an equipment malfunction. Although damage to the top of the stage created several lighting and technical issues, Madonna decided to go ahead with Thursday night's show. In an e-mail, Madonna said: "Even though my stage roof was damaged and some lights and effects aren't working, I want to do the show anyway because I don't want to disappoint my fans.
If Republican Mitt Romney wants to win the 2012 presidential election, he must make Americans like him, a political pollster and pundit told about 75 people at Westmoreland County Community College on Monday night. Romney must become "acceptable," or he won't win, despite President Obama being in office in a time of high unemployment, said G. Terry Madonna, a professor of political affairs and director of the Center for Politics and Public Affairs at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster.

The Madonna divorce drama is not yet a week old, and already the diva may have broken rule No. 1 of having a civilized and amicable split: Don't badmouth your spouse in front of the kids. Last week, in front of tens of thousands of fans at a Boston concert, the diva introduced her song "Miles Away" with what was interpreted widely as a none-too-subtle gibe at her estranged husband - father of two children with her and stepfather to a third - Guy Ritchie: "This song is for the emotionally retarded. Maybe you know some people who fall into that category. I know I do. Despite widespread belief that Madonna's barb was aimed at Mr. Ritchie, the star's publicist, Liz Rosenberg, tells The Washington Times that Madonna "definitely was not talking about her husband" when she made those remarks.
Despite Madonna's size - not only in enrollment, but in height and weight of players - the Blue Dons boast some impressive athletes. That's to say the least," said Madonna Coach Bob Kramer, whose team faces Wheeling Central (10-2) in the Class A championship at 7 p.m. Saturday at Wheeling Island Stadium. "My biggest lineman is about 230 (pounds). I have one at 225. Other than that, we're at 200. Not that we have a lot of those either. We dress 27 kids, including freshmen.
Her perch at Euclid Avenue and Foothill Boulevard has been the perfect spot to watch the Inland Valley change from fields and orchards to houses and Starbucks. She's nearly 80, and despite some tough times, the Madonna of the Trail statue is hardly showing her age.
Just a few hours after the White House press corps grilled George W. Bush on the Iraq war Wednesday, Madonna faced questions on her own foreign enterprise. But the singer, appearing on Oprah Winfrey's talk show in her first interview since adopting a baby from Malawi, received kinder treatment than the president. Despite criticism from others of Madonna's tactics and presumed motives, the enduring Queen of TV gave the fading Queen of Pop the video equivalent of a warm hug.
Listening to "MDNA," Madonna's cloyingly titled 12th album, it is difficult to accept the fact that the Mother of all Divas was once considered a cutting edge artist. Such a conception of Madonna's career is cast into serious doubt when this new effort comes blasting into the room, and then lingers around like a bad idea for the better part of an hour. If Madonna was indeed once a leader, she's certainly a follower these days. Trouble is, she's following the Wannabe Divas who once followed her. "MDNA" sounds like Britney with a brain. That's not much of a compliment.

Guy turns down $40M Despite his friends' claims that he would "happily" settle his divorce with Madonna for $18 million, Guy Ritchie has turned down an offer of $40 million from her, and the pair are no closer to reaching any agreement over their split, says Denverpost.com, citing reports published Wednesday in London and in People magazine.
In a newspaper in another creative galaxy -- and yet, somehow, in this very town -- reports emerge of a daring publishing vessel at The New Mexican. It is the '80s -- an era of parachute pants, Member's Only jackets, Jacko's Thriller, Madonna's debut, and an actor in the White House. Despite the art boom in New York City, it is a dark time for arts coverage in Santa Fe -- yet -- a period of exploration, danger, and confidence as well. This stunning new magazine bursts forth to continue the paper's time-honored devotion to the arts every Friday but in a new tabloid format, guaranteeing portability. By dispatching countless freelancers into the far reaches of Canyon Road and beyond, this magazine is poised to ensure that art, music, dance, film, theater are brilliantly covered (and critiq...
