[Louanner Peters], a noted political strategist and public policy expert, was appointed deputy governor of Illinois in December 2006 after serving as the former governor's deputy chief of staff for nearly three years prior. She was the first Black woman to hold the deputy governor position.
Most recently, Peters served as chief executive officer for JLP Consulting, LLC, a full-service strategic planning, business development and public affairs firm. She also worked for the NAACP's Voter Empowerment Project in Baltimore and for former U.S. Rep. Gus Savage. D-2nd.

CHICAGO - A former top aide to Rod Blagojevich testified Monday that the former governor planned to hold up a $2 million grant to a school in then-U.S. Rep. Rahm Emanuel's district until the congressman's Hollywood-agent brother held a fundraiser for him.
Former Illinois Deputy Gov. Bradley Tusk said at Blagojevich's corruption trial that he ignored the governor's directive to deliver the message to Emanuel - because, Tusk told the court, he thought the plan was "both illegal and unethical.

The University of Pittsburgh's School of Law will host a presentation titled "Ethics and Public Corruption: An Insider's View" on Thursday in the Barco Law Building, Teplitz Memorial Courtroom, 3900 Forbes Ave., Oakland.
The event, from noon to 1 p.m., will feature Richard Juliano, deputy chief of staff to former Illinois governor George Ryan, and Hank Shea, a former assistant U.S. attorney and a senior distinguished fellow at the University of St. Thomas School of Law in Minneapolis. The event is free and open to the public.
