LOS ANGELES - A Montebello attorney and his daughter pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges relatedto a scheme to "structure" cash transactions at banks to avoid having the deposits reported and avoid the payment offederal income taxes. Anthony Luna, 71, pleaded guilty in Los Angeles federal court to one count each of conspiracy to structure cashtransactions and subscribing to a false tax return, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Because the trial court properly concluded the monies sought by the plaintiffs-tenants did not constitute deposits as defined by Ohio's Landlord Tenant Act as codified in R.C. Chapter 5321, the trial court's grant of summary judgment in favor of the defendant-landlord was affirmed.

Tim Brophy Jr., described by city officials as a major slumlord, is contesting in federal court a $300,000 settlement against him in a class-action lawsuit brought by more than 110 former tenants who say he stiffed them out of their security deposits. Embroiled in a bankruptcy action, Brophy has asked a federal court to grant a temporary restraining order that in effect would return to him the $300,000 settlement award.
