Agencies to sign MOU to eliminate redundant inspections; White House hails agreement that will help families living in nearly 23,000 affordable Michigan rental units LANSING, Mich., Nov. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Midwest Regional Administrator Antonio R. Riley, United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development (USDA-RD) Program Director of Multi- Family Housing Programs for Michigan Ghulam Sumbal, and Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) Executive Director Gary Heidel announced an interagency agreement to reduce duplicate physical inspections of local subsidized affordable housing - allowing and owners to focus on delivering more housing and resources to those in need.
Here are the other cuts and savings announced by Schweitzer in recent weeks: * $600,000 by not spending an optional appropriation in waste-cleanup funds appropriated by the Legislature to Swank Enterprises of Kalispell to pay for cleaning up environmental liabilities. * $380,000 by eliminating five jobs, four of which were currently filled, as regional development officers in the Commerce Department. * $119,000 in savings at the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation by using video conferences to cut down on travel by employees. * $20,000 in savings by not printing the state phone directory next year. * An estimated $350,000 in projected annual savings through Schweitzer's order directing state agencies to reduce their out-of-state travel by 35 percent.
Allegheny County's Department of Economic Development and the Regional Industrial Development Corp. are the latest agencies planning to vacate the 31-story Regional Enterprise Tower, Downtown, which is scheduled to be sold at sheriff's sale on Monday. They will follow Riverlife, VisitPittsburgh and the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, which moved from the former Alcoa Inc. headquarters last year.
