ELLSWORTH - The Ellsworth Fire Department has received a $97,727 grant from the federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
The grant is part of more than $368,000 in funds awarded recently through the grant program by the Department of Homeland Security. Grants also were awarded to the Naples Fire Department, $47,842, and the Bridgewater Fire Department, $32,471.

The Department of Homeland Security recently awarded Pittsburgh a portion of $168 million in grants to protect port infrastructure. The city will receive $111,379 to protect assets such as the Kinder Morgan Liquid Terminals LLC and Neville Chemical Company. "These Port Security awards are to enhance our nation's ability to protect and secure an important sector of our critical infrastructure, ports and maritime facilities throughout the United States," said George Foresman, undersecretary of the Department of Homeland Security. "These grants will help ports further enhance and build risk based initiatives to protect these critical assets from threats and hazards that would cause major loss of life and disruption of services.

The Hampton Roads port community, the Port of Richmond and Norfolk Southern Railway will share more than $5.6 million in grants from the Department of Homeland Security, through a federal program aimed at emergency planning for terrorist attacks, major disasters and other emergencies.
Recipients in the port of Hampton Roads will get $4.28 million and the Port of Richmond $625,000 through the Port Security Grant Program, which supports efforts to protect seaports listed on the U.S. Coast Guard's list of critical seaports, which includes Hampton Roads.
