The National Harbor project, a $2 billion, 300-acre mixed-use community planned for Prince George's County, is finally getting off the ground. The project was at a standstill for years due to lawsuits filed by community constituents opposed to the development planned for Oxon Hill just off the first exit into Maryland from the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. Peterson Companies, who is developing the venue, has begun construction of the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center, which will be the largest hotel and convention center on the Eastern seaboard, says Denise Roberts, a spokesperson for the county executive's office.
Additional amenities will include residential units, retail, office space and dining.
