Describing himself as both "shocked" and "angry" by accusations he used illegal performance-enhancing drugs to prolong his record- setting career, an emotional Roger Clemens took to the airwaves Sunday night to deny ever taking steroids or human growth hormone.
Clemens, interviewed by Mike Wallace on "60 Minutes," repeatedly insisted that former trainer Brian McNamee's descriptions of injecting Clemens with drugs "never happened." The former Yankees pitcher also said he "had no knowledge" of teammate Andy Pettitte's use of HGH, which also was detailed in the Mitchell Report, the recent investigation into the use of performance-enhancing drug abuse in baseball. Pettitte since has admitted to taking HGH shots from McNamee on two occasions.

HARRISBURG -- Gov. Ed Rendell said Monday he would sign legislation to ban the practice of awarding state contracts to large political donors, maintaining that his administration hasn't engaged in so-called "pay-to-play" activity.
But his critics point to $82 million Rendell collected in two gubernatorial campaigns, and his administration's awarding of more than $1 billion in no-bid contracts. Republican senators have vowed to make such legislation a priority.

Jeremy Mayfield denied Saturday that an illegal drug caused his positive drug test, said that NASCAR had not informed him what they found in his system and hinted at legal action.
NASCAR responded by issuing a statement that indicated Mayfield was repeatedly told of what substance caused him to fail the drug test.
