The Missouri Supreme Court today denied bail to Mark Woodworth, a man who was twice convicted in the 1990 slaying of a Chillicothe farm wife.
The denial was without prejudice, meaning Woodworth may file his request again at a later date. Woodworth's attorney, Robert Ramsey, of Glen Carbon, Ill., said the bail request was denied because it was filed prematurely.

BANGOR, Maine -- A federal judge on Monday denied bail to a New York City man who was arrested last week in connection with a crack cocaine distribution ring operating in Bangor but granted personal recognizance bail to a local woman charged with the same offense.
S. Magistrate Judge Margaret Kravchuk found probable cause to charge Jacob "Pinky" Garcia, 21, with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 28 grams or more of cocaine base. In denying bail, Kravchuk found that Garcia had no ties to the state and no third-party custodian had come forward to take responsibility for his appearing in court and abiding by bail conditions.

FARMINGTON -- A Franklin County justice declined Friday for the second time since February to lower bail from $5,000 for a Strong man accused of robbing the Big Apple on Farmington Falls Road on Dec. 21, 2010.
Miguel Visuano III, 27, is facing a top level felony robbery charge. He was expected to go on trial in March but there was a death in an attorney's family and it was postponed to June. The trial was then postponed to October after there were not enough jurors to proceed.

AUBURN -- A Lewiston man who held police at bay at Morning Star Inn last week is being held without bail due to public safety concerns and pending his possible transfer to a secure alternative to jail.
Jeff Sewell, 43, who lived at Morning Star Inn on Lisbon Road, held police at bay for six hours last week before surrendering.

SANTA ANA - A federal judge denied bail Wednesday for a former Pasadena police officer accused of robbing two La Habra banks, agreeing with federal prosecutors that he posed a danger to the community.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Christine Batista argued Vincent Cantu, 44, of Whittier should be held without bail because while he has been charged with two armed robberies, he is under investigation for three others.
