It is hard, and the title of [Michele Wucker]'s book reveals where the core problem lies: "Getting it right." Getting immigration right is not easy because there is no "right" for everyone involved. The right take on immigration for a cleaning service contractor, a construction boss, major shareholders at Microsoft, or large landowners in South Texas is not the same as the right take for the Service Employees International Union or the United Farm Workers, for example. And the likelihood of the U.S. Congress getting it right for, say, a 25-year-old father of three from Guatemala, with nothing but his desperation and determination, is almost non-existent. Similarly, "Our Prosperity" in Michele Wucker's title is a myth. Prosperity is more and more the province of the very wealthy few. Man...

The sale of these items is irresponsible on all levels," stated [Leroy Comrie]. "From the corporation that authorizes thenproduction, to the company that designs and markets them, to the retailer that sells them to our youth, there is an awareness by the involved parties concerning the sale of gang-related apparel, but few have taken proactive steps to rectify the problem," he said.
"Like graffiti and hand signals, gang insignia, colors and paraphernalia are the external signs of an underground culture in which loyalties are demonstrated and threats are made," explained NYPD Deputy Chief Robert Boyce, the gang division's commanding officer. "There is no question that a Yankee hat manufactured with a five-pointed crown is a blatant demonstration of Latin King's loyalty," he added.

Employment has shifted from a relatively stable and secure relation in which shareholders bore the risks associated with the market and firms buffered the risks vis-à-vis workers to a dynamic relation characterized by employment insecurity and individual responsibility. Modern businesses face new management challenges stemming from decreased employee loyalty and difficulties in supervising and controlling the workforce. Firms have responded by implementing internal branding programs that parallel consumer marketing programs but target workers rather than consumers. The goal of such programs is to re-align employees’ self-interest with that of the firm, persuading employees to internalize the firm’s brand so that they “live the brand” and react instinctively “on-brand.” Identity-based br...

This study compares and contrasts the individual dimensions of work ethic of graduating college and university students to those of workforce professionals. The Multidimensional Work Ethic Profile (MWEP) is used to operationalize seven dimensions of work ethic. The findings indicate that while students and workforce professionals differ within the individual dimensions, quantitatively, they have the same overall work ethic. Variances within the dimensions of work ethic may have important implications for corporate managers.

RAS LANOUF, Libya - Repeated airstrikes by Libyan warplanes on Monday illustrated the edge Moammar Gadhafi holds in his fight against rebel forces marching toward the capital: He controls the air. After pleading from the uprisings leaders, Britain and France began drafting a U.N. resolution for a no-fly zone in Libya that could balance the scales. President Obama warned that the U.S. and its NATO allies are still considering military options to stop what he called unacceptable violence by Gadhafis regime. NATO decided to boost flights of AWACs surveillance planes over Libya from 10 to 24 hours a day, the U.S. Ambassador to NATO Ivo Daalder said. I want to send a very clear message to those who are around Colonel Gadhafi. It is their choice to make how they operate moving forward. And th...
