This paper reviews a bulk of the empirical studies on import demand estimates for Japan which findings are mixed and inconclusive. This review article contributes to the literature in at least two ways: 1. provide a detailed review on the papers which have studied the import demand behavior for Japan, and 2. discuss the issues of import demand framework with reference to Japan, in particular, the determinants of demand for imports. This is a survey paper, which reviews the studies that investigated Japan's import demand behavior in aggregate levels, particularly. This paper concludes that the results of Japan's import demand depend on the model specification and the estimation technique. This paper also reviews the issues, which are related to the candidate determinants of aggregate imp...

NEW YORK, Jan. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Online advertised vacancies rose 93,800 in December to 3,951,000, according to The Conference Board Help Wanted OnLine(R) (HWOL) Data Series released today. The December increase offset the dips of 76,000 in November and 14,000 in October. The Supply/Demand rate stands at 3.45, indicating there were 3.5 unemployed for every online advertised vacancy in November, the latest monthly data available for unemployment.
The December increase was a welcome lift for labor demand after a lackluster year," said June Shelp, Vice President at The Conference Board. Labor demand struggled in 2011. After a promising start in the early months of the year, labor demand had been basically flat since August. Some of the occupations that saw an uptick in December are ...

The Middle East conflict confronts us with the fragility of the border that separates "illegitimate" non-state power from the "legitimate" state power, since, in the case of Israel, its "illegitimate" origins are not yet obliterated, their effects are fully felt today. When Western observers wonder why Palestinians insist in their stubborn attachment to their land, they demand of Palestinians precisely to ignore the Israeli "illegitimate" state-founding violence. This is why, in a display of poetic justice, Israel is getting back from the Palestinians its own message in its inverted (true) form-and not only in regard to the "pathologically" strong attachment to land. Imagine reading the following statement in today's media:
This statement mixes the most disgusting insinuations with a co...

The purpose of this study was to examine (NBA) over a five-year period (2000-2005) and compare these results to previous research on turnover in Major League Baseball (MLB). A censored regression equation was developed to examine the relationship between roster turnover and season attendance, while controlling for other potentially confounding variables in the model. The censored regression model was used to account for the capacity constraints by forecasting the level of demand beyond capacity using information from the uncensored observations. The regression model was found to be significant with a log-likelihood statistic of 113.631. Previous attendance, current winning percentage, previous winning percen...

On the surface, your curmudgeonly neighbor (you know, the guy who spends his winters in his den, hunched over a vise, tying fishing flies that hell use all summer) would seem to have little in common with rock star Steven Tyler, pop star Ke$ha, or beauty salon owners in California, New York and Colorado.
But make no mistake about it: Whether he knows it yet, he does.
