Learning took on an international aspect in the Clinical Simulation Center at the University of Southern Indiana recently when a Dutch-speaking nursing student was the voice of the patient and another played the role of interpreter. The simulation was designed to help nursing students with communication and delegation skills.
Lisanne van Leeuwen voiced the advanced patient simulator. She explained in her native language the patient?s symptoms (an ailing toe) and medical history to the healthcare team. Because the scenario was designed with a male patient, the computerized simulator modified her voice to sound like a man. Tessa Hulshof acted as the interpreter. David M. Reynolds, son of Robert and Teri D. Reynolds of Yucaipa, has graduated from the U.S. Army Warrant Officer Candidate School at Fort Rucker, Daleville, Ala., and was appointed to the rank of warrant officer one.
Reynolds completed an intense six-week course conducted in a demanding, rigorous, high-stressed and deadline-required environment. He received training in leadership skills, Army customs, doctrine, tradition, and tactics, drill and ceremonies, professional ethics, physical fitness, time-stress-people management skills, decision making, delegation and personnel skills, and many other military academic subjects.

The MIPSE facility will get the opportunity to prove its world-class reputation by teaching such skills to the Chengdu delegation of public safety and emergency response leaders next week, from October 15 to 19. "We are thrilled to welcome our first international training group from Chengdu, China to our world class MIPSE training center.
