In the mostly female dominated profession of teaching, this pilot project investigates how a group of males who are both fathers and teachers perceive their experiences as they navigate these dual roles. This qualitative study invited men who were teaching in early childhood, primary and secondary settings in New Zealand, and who were also fathers, to comment on their perceptions of how their dual roles impacted on each other. The themes emerging from their responses included empathy for parents, better understanding of children, benefits for own children, and being viewed as "more real" by their students, as well as being better equipped to understand schools and learning, improved personal and professional qualities, and more time available to spend with family.

A mathematical model of the business system that links innovation of products and services to financial growth represents both investment and revenue as a series of overlapping waves, thus more directly capturing the lagged relationship between investment and revenue growth over time. By teasing out some of the underlying non-obvious relationships, the approach provides important and often counterintuitive insights into the roles that early learning, staffing decisions, and investments in process improvements and services can play in improving the income-to-investment ratio. Executives and managers will be able to directly correlate many of their actions to results, shedding light into the black box of innovation effectiveness.

Despite the perception in some quarters that cartoons constitute an important medium for framing social issues, they are often dismissed on the grounds of political absurdity and ideological insignificance. Cartoons are seen as offering just "passing chuckles" rather than any "deep reflection" on social issues. The perception may be related to the cartoon's discursive spatial limitation and its very nature as a visual mode of communication. Visual modes of communication are deemed deficient in performing analytical communication. When Evo Morales, former coca grower and leader of the coca-growers' union, was elected president of Bolivia in 2005, many observers of Bolivian politics anticipated that Bolivia would rapidly cease cooperation with the United States in the "War on Drugs." Such a change, however, has not been apparent. What explains Bolivia's continued cooperation? I argue here that US-Bolivian trade policy, which enables the US to use trade preferences as a carrot to promote Bolivian drug policy, may best explain this apparently anomalous behavior, suggesting that trade may be an effective tool in promoting non-economic foreign policy goals.
