Students at the North County Recreation Center, 196 Hammonds Lane, will have a chance to recycle their jewelry and create jewelry from old newspapers and magazines during classes offered in the next couple of months. In the "Trash to Treasures" class, participants supply their own old piece of jewelry and learn to create a new necklace, bracelet, earrings or other decorative item from it.
SEARSPORT - The Penobscot Marine Museum will offer a "Jacob Pike" Half Hull Model Building Class from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, Feb. 23 through March 18, at the Old Vestry Building on the corner of Route 1 and Church Street. Participants will build a half model of the museum's historic sardine carrier Jacob Pike. Today, a half model is considered a decorative item, however, the originals were used by boat builders to design the lines of their vessels' hulls. The half model created in this class will include a cabin and stump mast. Al Ross, model builder at BlueJacket ShipCrafters, will teach this class.
