Hence, there is a need to ensure that the educational services are relevant and useful to potential users. This descriptive study examined the influence of demographic factors (age, gender, income, level of education, and religion) on consumers' attitudes to purchase American-made passenger vehicles in three Asian countries: 1) China, 2) Taiwan, and 3) Thailand. Since American-made vehicles still occupy only a small segment of this Asian market, the relationships and differences among the three countries in terms of their culture and country-of-origin effect on product attributes were measured - helping marketers increase market share by better understanding the determining factors leading to notable diversity in the consumers' decision-making process.

A key component of drug courts is the use of graduated sanctions and rewards to encourage compliance; however, little is known about how such systems are actually implemented. The current paper documents the specific behaviors that are sanctioned and rewarded and the sanctions and rewards used, perceptions of the efficacy of sanctions, the level of standardization in the application of sanctions and rewards, participants' understanding of the sanctioning system, and the decision-making process regarding sanctioning in five judicial circuits in Florida. Using qualitative data gathered from interviews with 86 key stakeholders and analyzed using NUD*IST software, we conducted comparisons between drug courts and traditional courts, as well as by respondent role (staff vs. offender). Our mai...

This study examined how high school seniors construct decision-making strategies for choosing a college to attend. To comprehend their decision-making strategies, we chose to examine this process through the theoretical lens of bounded rationality, which brings to light the complexity in constructing a college choice decision-making strategy because students make their college selections with relatively limited information and computational abilities. Using data from the College Board's Admitted Student Questionnaire Plus(TM) (ASQ Plus(TM)) survey for the 2003-2004 school year, 20,722 responses from students admitted to liberal arts colleges in the United States were used to examine college decision-making strategies.

The purpose of the paper is to gain understanding of how and why ethical choices and business choices are often in conflict. Specifically, the paper uses an interpretative case study approach to highlight a common ethical dilemma - decision-making in a performance-based compensation environment, and to provide a discussion on the nature of the dilemma, who it involves, the advantages and disadvantages of both business and ethical sides, and what, if anything, companies are doing to mitigate conflicts. The paper highlights the need for companies to consider a broader focus in the compensation system's design, one that steps further outside the boundaries of individual motivations and short-term profits.

A World War II general once said that a good battle plan implemented promptly was much better perfect battle plan implemented too late. Effective and efficient decision making follows a similar logic. The decision maker must choose between competing alternatives, using data with varying degrees of uncertainty while frequently facing time pressures. In 2003, the Navy established all Echelon II command called Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC). CNIC is the Navy's command, technical authority and single process owner for shore installation management. CNIC's mission is to enable and sustain fleet, fighter and family readiness through consistent, standardized and reliable shore support. The Navy's programmatic application of risk-based strategies represents a new stage in continuo...

In the early days of commercial finance, lenders were focused almost entirely on the quality and quantity of a borrower's collateral. Borrowers are often larger and more sophisticated and the demands of lending to these companies are often more complex. Concurrently, the competition for good loans has grown intense. Given this evolution, asset-based lenders (ABL) today face tough decisions about marginal credits on a regular basis. This article will present a series of metrics that can be used to assess the primary "soft" issue ABL lenders typically address: management risk. An additional set of factors specific to the management risk of family businesses will also be discussed in view of their significant place in the market. The ABL industry is continuing to evolve and evolution creat...
