When 20,000 South Africa women in March 1956 matched to the Union Buildings to protest against the government passed laws (Department of Arts and Culture, 2006), little did anyone know that South Africa will be one of the leading countries in the world in terms of women's representation in political positions. In Lesotho, the April 30, 2005 election has given an urge to women over men in local governance. This paper examines the Lesotho's decentralisation process, the evolution of women's participation in the political process, their representation in decision-making positions, the genesis of women's participation in local governance and how women chiefs and women councillors are faring in local governance.
