INDIANAPOLIS - Some Indiana Medicaid patients now can earn money to spend on health care simply by visiting the doctor or seeking routine preventive care. Managed Health Services on Monday announced a new debit card program that rewards patients for making regular trips to the doctor, taking their babies in for checkups and getting screened for several conditions.
NEW YORK, Oct. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The availability of debit card rewards offers fell 30% over the past year, according to Bankrate.com's (NYSE: RATE) 2011 Debit Card Rewards Study. The good news for consumers is that the programs that still exist are largely unchanged. Just like last year, 0.5% is still the most common payout ratio. FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Debit card rewards are going the way of the rotary phone. Many of the country's largest banks -- including JPMorgan Chase and SunTrust -- are eliminating the rewards programs as Washington plans to slash the fees merchants pay banks when consumers use the debit cards for purchases.
El Paso County's two largest credit unions have joined with a Denver-based company to pay cash rewards for debit card transactions with some merchants. Ent Federal Credit Union began paying rewards of up to 20 percent Tuesday on debit card transactions with 128 local merchants and about 1,900 others statewide, while Air Academy Federal Credit Union expects to launch its program within three months.

CLEVELAND -- A trip to the islands for paying the water bill. Free coffee and pasta dinners for grocery shopping. A clothing store gift card for picking up dry cleaning. Suddenly mundane errands have gotten more rewarding.

A key trend within the rewards program markets is extending rewards programs to debit cards, says Jan Daily, SVP, TNB Card Services. Debit card rewards programs are similar to credit card programs, which allow points accumulated for purchases made using a particular card to be saved and later redeemed for rewards that can include anything from jewelry or household items to trips or even ring tones or charitable donations. As with credit card reward programs, a financial institution can receive increased interchange income from debit ...
