The state Insurance Commission has extended the deadline for insurance companies to submit bids to provide workers' compensation insurance coverage to state agencies.
The original deadline was July 6 with a contract to be awarded Friday. The new deadline is Wednesday. All bidders will have the opportunity to make a 1 1/2-hour presentation July 19 or July 20. The new contract award date is July 22. The insurance company with the winning bid will begin providing coverage Sept. 1.

PATERSON -- The state has once again extended the city's budget adoption deadline in the hope of avoiding a takeover by closing an $8 million shortfall.
In a letter Friday to the mayor and council, the state Department of Community Affairs said that, because of "continued cooperation" with city officials, it would not seize control of Paterson's government if a balanced budget was introduced for a public hearing by March 15 and passed by March 28.

CHICAGO, Ill. - An amendment to an agreement between the Mexican Government and lawyers representing thousands of Mexican guest workers has extended the deadline for those workers to submit claims to recover wages withheld from them during World War II. The new deadline is January 5, 2009. In celebration of New Harmony's 200th birthday in 2014, the University of Southern Indiana's Historic New Harmony and New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art are sponsoring the Bicentennial House Design Competition.
