The Russian Orthodox Church's (ROC) assertion of a constitutionally inappropriate role in the affairs of state has severely compromised Russia's secular constitutional framework. This gradual but steady erosion of the barrier between church and state in Russia is evidenced by a series of contemporary developments that are inexorably linked to the Church's vision of its traditional place in Russian history. Taken together, these developments demonstrate a consistent and expanding effort on the part of the ROC to insinuate its views and beliefs into official Russian government policy. This Note analyzes the psychological-parent and de facto-parent doctrines. These court-created doctrines allow third parties to gain standing to petition a court for the visitation of children. Such third parties are not biologically related to these children, yet they claim to have parentlike relationships with the children and seek to continue the relationships against the wishes of the biological or adoptive parents. These doctrines are becoming more common as family life in America becomes more fractured. Some states have adopted the doctrines, while others have rejected them; jurisdictions are in great conflict over the issue. De facto amnesty for an estimated 300,000 illegal aliens is not merely an Obama administration end run around a Congress opposed to such coddling. It also hamstrings an economy struggling to create jobs -- and is especially harmful to younger, less-educated jobless Americans. In a new report, Steven A. Camarota, director of research at the Center for Immigration Studies (cis.org), says this administration is allowing hundreds of thousands of illegals who'd otherwise be deported to stay here and to apply for work authorization, too.
