Firefighters' feud probed
A firefighter in Salisbury accused of pulling a knife on one of his fellow firefighters will not be charged, according to Wicomico County State's Attorney Davis Ruark. Police investigators met with Bruce Trivits, the volunteer firefighter who said Harold Scott, the suspended president of Salisbury's Station 2, threatened him June 7 with a pocketknife after a fire call. Scott allegedly did it again a week later. Ruark said the fire department should handle the incident internally. Fire Chief David See said an internal investigation will begin.

Prosecutors' pay raise
The Wicomico County Council has approved pay raises for county prosecutors. State's Attorney Davis Ruark had sought the raise after losing two of his top prosecutors to the county public defender's office. Ruark said the approved increase will help reduce the pay disparity between prosecutors and public defenders and reduce turnover. Under the new pay scales, some prosecutors will get increases between $2,300 and $3,800.

MdTA approves rate hikes
The Maryland Transportation Authority on Thursday approved rate hikes at its seven toll facilities. The changes are expected to generate about $60 million more a year for the self-sustained agency to help it keep up with increasing costs as toll traffic and revenue drop. Large trucks and other multi-axle vehicles will pay more in tolls. E-ZPass customers also will face monthly fees and pay more for new and replacement transponders. Standard and commuter toll rates will stay the same. The authority will offer a 10 percent discount for multi-axle vehicles that make more than 100 trips per month through authority facilities.
