NHL: Red Wings' third-, fourth-liners do most damage.
DETROIT - With news that Darryl Sutter will be named Kings coach later this week, his new team certainly made an impression Saturday night in Detroit - a negative one.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. ? He wasn't invoking the wisdom of hockey greats such as the legendary Gordie Howe or even Wayne Gretzky, a star with some serious Kings' cred in his background.

The Kings will close their outdoor skating rink at L.A. Live today with a final skate in which they'll generate fake snow in 80- degree weather. If only they could figure out a way to generate offense across the street at Staples Center.

With the Flames on the outside of the Western Conference playoff picture and trying to fight their way back in, however, the pressure is on Sutter and his general manager/brother, Darryl, to turn things around in the team's final 19 regular-season games.

TAMPA, Fla. -- Calgary Flames coach Darryl Sutter deflected attention away from Ville Nieminen's suspension by complaining Wednesday that some NHL factions badly want the Tampa Bay Lightning to win the Stanley Cup.
Sutter said suspending one of his top players for Game 5 only reinforces his small market, Canadian-based team's status as underdogs in a finals that were expected to be fast and furious but instead have been physical, injury-filled and low-scoring.
