DRY FORK - Katherine Setzer Barrett Buchanan, 76, of Dry Fork, Va., died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, in Danville Regional Medical Center after a valiant battle with breast cancer. Born June 9, 1933, in Claremont, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Blakie Hawn Setzer and the late Hoyle Columbus Setzer.
She graduated from Claremont High School in 1951 and moved to Washington, D.C., to work in finger printing for the FBI. She later owned and operated Glen-Mar Beauty Salon in Virginia Beach for 15 years and then worked for JC Penney hair salon in Danville. She was an avid gardener and an avid reader. She loved quilt making and traveling. She was a member of the African Violet Society, the Master Gardeners and a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Dry Fork Volunteer Fire Department.

The Rev. Tarrance was born on Oct. 16, 1912, in Danville, Ky., to the late John and Rachel Tarrance. He was a faithful member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Petersburg, where he was assistant paster emeritus and a member of the Senior Citizens' Ministry. The Rev. Tarrance was also a member of several other organizations, including the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Baptist Ministers' Conference, Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the Downtown Churches feeding program.
