Bonnie: Tropicana's latest juice supplies 3 grams of fiber in every 8-ounce glass, or about as much as is found in a medium orange. Fiber is good for us. It helps improve gastrointestinal functions and is thought to lower the risk of various diseases (type- 2 diabetes, certain cancers and heart disease). And yet most Americans get only half of what's recommended daily. The fiber in this juice, though, is not from an orange but from Fibersol-2, a corn-derived soluble fiber. It's the same product used to boost fiber in Dannon Light 'n Fit With Fiber yogurt and Quaker Take Heart Instant Oatmeal. All of these are undoubtedly easier to stomach than Metamucil. And all offer their own nutritional benefits. Orange juice, for instance, is also rich in vitamin C.

Although Dannon is a yogurt-maker and this product is sold in a store's yogurt section and looks like yogurt, Dannon Carb Control isn't actually yogurt at all. It's a "cultured dairy snack." While cultured pasteurized milk is the primary ingredient of most yogurts, water is the main one in Dannon Light 'n Fit Carb Control. When you buy this new product, you're paying for mostly water.

Yoplait Delights Parfait Lowfat Yogurt. Chocolate Raspberry, Triple Berry Creme, Lemon Torte and Creme Caramel. $2.99 per package of four 4-ounce cups. Bonnie: Regular readers of this column know of my bias against artificial sweeteners such as the ones found in these new Yoplait Delights Parfaits. To me, they have an unpleasant aftertaste. If that doesn't bother you, then you may delight in these new layered yogurt parfaits with only 100 calories and 1.5 grams of fat, and 15 percent of daily calcium per serving. I like the lemon best and the caramel the least, as it was too sweet. And I like the two- flavor concept.
