HOLDEN - An Orrington man was critically injured Friday when he crashed his motorcycle during a late morning ride on Copeland Hill Road in Holden. Dan Grover Sr., 52, was riding a brand-new Victory motorcycle with his brother and son, who were on separate bikes, just before 10 a.m., Holden police Sgt. Eugene Fizell said.

One moment, James DeLuca was digging a trench and the next moment, he was covered up to his waist in dirt and asphalt. DeLuca, an employee of J.T. Furrey Co. of Hamden, was part of a three-man team excavating for a sewer hookup in front of 399 Sackett Point Road Wednesday afternoon when the sides of the trench gave way and blacktop caved in, said Tom Brown, project coordinator. NORMAL - A pair of first-team All-State selections and a second- team pick have signed national letters of intent for baseball at Illinois State. Pitcher Ryan Copeland of Elk Grove High School and outfielder Dan Weston of LaGrange were first-team choices by the Chicago Tribune and Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association. Pitcher Josh Schultz of Mount Zion was a second-team selection by the Tribune.
