The quantitative microplate test, which detects elevated levels of nuclear matrix protein in a urine sample, is considered useful for both screening and monitoring applications. Its use requires a physicians's prescription at present, although Inverness and Matritech are developing a home-use version, the NMP22 BladderChek, that will be available over the counter following FDA approval.
