MILFORD -- Police have an arrest warrant for the daughter of an 81-year-old woman who has been missing since July 3. Police said they got the arrest warrant for Jeryl Gray for first-degree custodial interference in regard to her mother, Dolores Gray. Jeryl Gray allegedly took her mother from a city home, and possibly to Florida, which violates a court order, police said. The Milford/Orange Probate Court in December ordered that Dolores Gray not be taken from the state. A conservatorship was granted to Dolores Gray's son, a city resident.

Acting State Supreme Court Justice Steven Barrett has set sentencing for Tuesday, December 2, 2008 in Part T-60. Under terms of the plea agreement, Betsaida Melendez-Garcia will be sentenced to a term of 11/4 to 4 years in prison. However, Melendez-Garcia left the courtroom a free woman after pleading guilty since she has already served more than six years in prison in connection with this incident. Melendez-Garcia initially was found guilty of Kidnapping in the 2nd degree and sentenced to 10 20 years imprisonment, but that conviction was recently overturned by the New York State Appellate Division which ordered that she be granted a new trial.

MACHIAS - A man who was serving as a pastor at a church in Addison and his wife have been arrested on charges of kidnapping and custodial interference after the wife's two daughters, ages 7 and 12, were found earlier this week living on their own at an Ellsworth motel. Colin Haag Jr., 34, and his wife, Amanda Haag, 34, were being held Wednesday in Washington County Jail. Colin Haag's bail was set at $100,000 surety or $25,000 cash. Amanda Haag's bail was set at $25,000 surety or $5,000 cash. The two, who were arrested Tuesday, also are suspected in alleged thefts from at least one Down East church, according to police.

Local prosecutors began Monday to tie up the loose ends that remained after Michael D. Collins was sentenced to more than 24 years in prison last month in the near-fatal beating of a cross- country skier. Collins is charged in Clark County Superior Court with failure to register as a sex offender and first-degree custodial interference. The latter charge is related to Collins taking his 17-year-old son, Teven Collins, in violation of a custody order.
A 27-year-old Henderson, Ky., man was arrested Thursday after a teenager missing for more than a year was found in his home. Joshua Guthrie, of the 400 block of 12th Street, faces a felony charge of custodial interference after Jamie Lee Owen, 17, was found hiding in the closet in Guthrie's home, according to the Henderson Police Department.
