Asked why he won't sell his consistently delicious olives, he replied: "They're a gift from the tree, so I give most of them away to our friends. One guy told me I was nuts not to sell these for top dollar. But it's not what I want to do with a fruit that's free. As a young man, I tended to think money was the root of all evil. This can be one area in my life not defined, not influenced by money. My company [Rainbow Refrigeration] pays the bills, feeds us and the kids," he says, "but it's just a job. Olives are about love.

Arendt's critique of thinking in "clichés" arises most prominently in her examination of Adolf Eichmann's inability to "think from the standpoint of others," which allowed him to justify transporting millions of Jews to their death through a terrifyingly banal understanding of duty (1992, 47-55, 135-38), while Deleuze's begins with an examination of the relationship between stupidity and the dogmatic image of thought in Difference and Repetition (1994, 150-53) and attains moral significance in his consideration of cinema as a modern, potentially popular form of philosophy capable of restoring "faith" or bodily engagement with the world (1987, 170-72, 182; Marrati 2003, 104-12). Drawing on neo-Aristotelian, feminist, and phenomenological arguments, I would add that the rationalization o...

On a midsummer day, when the blacktop shimmered like water, an 18- wheeler from Canada threaded its way through a tangle of roads in rural Virginia Beach. It groaned to a stop in front of Henley's Farm Market.

MILFORD -- A West Haven woman allegedly threw a pot of hot coffee on an elderly acquaintance, police said. The incident occurred almost three years ago, but Deborah Gianini, 53, of 24 First Ave., was not arrested until Friday.
Police did not say what caused so much time to elapse between the incident and the arrest, but they did say Gianini also tried to hit the elderly man with the coffee a second time and missed.
