The state Attorney General's Office filed a lawsuit Wednesday accusing Delaware-based Cross Country Bank of deceptive marketing and Applied Card Systems, the bank's collection agency, of using abusive collection methods.
The lawsuit, filed in Kanawha County Circuit Court, also names the companies' founder and co-owner, Rocco A. Abessinio, as a defendant.

Applied Card Systems has agreed to clarify a confidentiality agreement it requires workers to sign after the Attorney General's Office challenged the document in court.
The Attorney General's Office had contended that the confidentiality agreement illegally prohibited workers from reporting alleged violations of the state's consumer protection law. The agency filed a petition Sept. 9 in Kanawha Circuit Court seeking a temporary injunction to block Applied Card and its parent, Wilmington, Del.-based Cross Country Bank, from enforcing the agreement.
