The Illinois Department of Agriculture recently released data that show no-till crop production has been making big gains in the past 12 years.
The 2006 Illinois Soil Erosion and Crop Tillage Transect Survey shows that 33 percent of all crops were planted using no-till production methods. Prior to that, the highest percentage since the department started tracking use of crop tillage systems in 1994 was 30 percent in 2002.

FAIRFIELD Terri Glidden, farm manager at The Apple Farm in Fairfield, said this years apple crop is doing very well. We might be a week later in picking some varieties, but overall it should be a great season, she said Friday.

INDIANAPOLIS - Many Indiana farmers who had been worrying about a late summer drought are now looking forward to some extra spending money thanks to high grain prices, which a Purdue University farm analyst expects will boost the state's farm income about 25 percent this year.
Indiana's 2010 farm income should top $3 billion, about a half- billion dollars higher than last year and just below 2008's record of $3.2 billion, said Purdue agricultural economist Chris Hurt.
