WASHINGTON - Stephen Fincher, a 37-year-old Crockett County farmer and a singing evangelist, announced Tuesday that he is the second Republican to seek the 8th Congressional District seat held by Democrat John Tanner.
Fincher, from the Frog Jump community south of Dyersburg, joins Brighton computer consultant Donn Janes for the GOP nomination. Tanner, first elected in 1988, hasn't had a well-funded opponent since then.

WASHINGTON - It's been just over a month since he was sworn in, but freshman U.S. Rep. Stephen Fincher, R-Tenn., is settling in with a combination of infectious enthusiasm and serious-mindedness.
He introduced himself at the organizational meeting of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee as the man from "Frog Jump," the Crockett County hamlet he calls home. But he also mentioned Memphis and FedEx, both with huge interests before the committee.

WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Stephen Fincher has set up a leadership political action committee to aid other candidates and has also formed a 12-member Freshman Class joint fundraising committee, according to Federal Election Commission records.
The Crockett County Republican joined fellow Mid-Southerner U.S. Rep. Rick Crawford, R-Ark., in forming the 12-member joint committee.
