NEW YORK, July 13, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) said today it has achieved a major First Amendment victory for pro-life advocates after it convinced a federal district court to block enforcement of New York City's recently adopted ordinance targeting crisis pregnancy centers. A federal judge today blocked enactment of the measure, scheduled to take effect tomorrow, by issuing a preliminary injunction which the ACLJ requested last month after it filed a federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the new ordinance.
This is a resounding victory underscoring what we have argued all along -- this law which forces crisis pregnancy centers to adopt and express views about abortion and contraception that they strongly disagree with is...

IT is disappointing to learn that our government contributes funds to "crisis pregnancy centers" or "pregnancy counseling centers," often fake clinics, run by extreme anti-choice groups.
They frequently pose as women's health clinics, advertising under "abortion" and "family planning" services. Typically they are located near comprehensive reproductive health clinics and use similar sounding names; however, they do not offer contraception, abortion services or referrals.

[...] Ashby, executive director of the Mountain Top Crisis Pregnancy Centers, and other founders started their first center in July 1989 in Mountain Lake Park, Md. Since then the group has expanded its reach, opening centers in Keyser and Kingwood, in addition to the Maryland office.

A crisis pregnancy center in Silver Spring has become the second group in Maryland to sue a Washington-area government over laws that pro-lifers say are part of a national campaign to snuff out anti- abortion speech.
Centro Tepeyac Women's Center, a 20-year-old Catholic agency on Apple Avenue, sued Montgomery County last week at U.S. District Court in Greenbelt over a Feb. 2 vote by the County Council that created a law requiring crisis pregnancy centers to post certain signs in English and Spanish.

SAN FRANCISCO, July 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NARAL Pro- Choice California Foundation today announced the results of a two- year-long undercover investigation of more than 200 so-called "crisis pregnancy centers" (CPCs) in California. The report reveals a disturbing pattern of how these unregulated centers mislead women about their reproductive health-care options, thus posing a serious threat to women's health.
CPCs are the "clinic arm" of the anti-choice movement. In many cases, as the report confirms, CPCs use deceptive and intimidating practices to mislead women who are facing an unintended pregnancy about abortion, contraception, and other medical care.

JEFFERSON CITY -- The budget ax fell hard on Missouri's social services yesterday as House lawmakers began the long and painful process of crafting a state spending plan amid slumping tax revenues.
If the cuts hold up, Missouri would halt funding for crisis pregnancy centers and maternity homes, eliminate its operating aid for community health care centers and cut in half the state subsidies for domestic violence shelters.

The Baltimore City Council has passed a bill requiring crisis pregnancy centers to post signs saying they do not "provide or make referrals for abortion or birth-control services." Now it awaits the mayor's signature.
Behind this unprecedented move of government to step in to regulate these centers is the national "pro-choice" movement - Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice America. So we can expect similar efforts around the nation.
