Factors associated with activation of a volunteer-based crisis intervention services program for victims of police-reported intimate partner violence (IPV) were examined to determine if those for whom services were activated were representative of the overall eligible population. The study population comprised 2,092 adult female victims of male-perpetrated police-reported IPV. Crisis intervention services were requested by responding patrol officers in 415 (19.8%) of these incidents. Activation of crisis intervention services was more likely for victims who were married to their abusive partner, pregnant, or of Latina or Asian race/ethnicity and among IPV incidents involving physical abuse, visible victim injuries, and arrest of the abusive partner. The somewhat surprising aspect of this apparently touchy-feely approach is that fewer people go to jail, fewer people go to mental hospitals, fewer officers and subjects are injured, there are fewer repeat arrests, fewer people prosecuted (or otherwise enter the judicial system) and more people are identified to get the appropriate mental health care. LONG BEACH -- An estimated 30,000 people are expected to line Ocean Boulevard on Sunday and cheer the hundreds of participants who are marching loud and proud in the annual Long Beach Pride Parade. COLUMBUS -- The Tri-County Crisis Intervention Team program was recognized as Ohio's CIT Program of the Year during the 2009 NAMI Ohio Annual Conference on May 8 The award, sponsored by the Ohio Criminal Justice Coordinating Center of Excellence, NAMI Ohio and Ohio Department of Mental Health, was presented by Ohio's Attorney General Richard Cordray. Accepting the award on behalf of the Tri-County CIT Program was Jodi Long and Amanda Brown, both of the Tri-County Board of Recovery & Mental Health Services in Troy.

SAN BERNARDINO - City religious and community leaders held a rally prior to Tuesday's school board meeting to address the high number of Latinos and blacks dropping out of San Bernardino City Unified schools. The event at the district office launched a partnership between Inland Congregations United for Change, ICUC, and Congregations Organized for Prophetic Engagement, COPE, to improve educational outcomes in the district.
