Once that is complete, however, the work of the task force isn't finished.
The Aug. 14 shootings outside City Grill left an indelible imprint upon the City of Buffalo and, as a consequence, a raft of crime-fighting measures have been suggested, not the least of which was the recent vote by the Common Council to create a new task force that would bring community leaders together. Sponsored by Ellicott District Common Council Member Curtis Haynes Jr., the idea is to establish a study panel that will include neighborhood activists, clergy, business leaders, academia and law enforcement officers.
With the recent closure of the Nassau County Crime Lab due to questions about the credibility of test results, the Nassau County Bar Association has created its own task force to determine how best to move forward with the lab. The newly created task force, made up of defense attorneys from the NCBA's criminal law and procedure committee, Nassau Legal Aid Society and Nassau County Criminal Courts Bar Association, will look at the procedures, policies and possible legislation needed to be enacted to avoid a recurrence of the current situation.

Columbia Police Chief Randy Boehm said a new multi-agency task force focused on shootings and other violent crime in the city will consist of six Columbia police officers, two Boone County sheriff's deputies, one University of Missouri police officer and an FBI agent. The 10 members began meeting today, Boehm said, and will work on the task force full time until it is no longer needed.
SOUTH WHITTIER - Unless Supervisor Don Knabe is willing to throw some cash at a community-based law enforcement task force he introduced last year, the group's goals will be unattainable, its leader is warning. Ralph Pacheco, chairman of the South Whittier Community Law Enforcement Task Force, said Knabe has yet to respond to a Dec. 5 written request for financial help for "incidental costs.
