Making Flight Safer Wolf Technical Services Inc., an engineering company that uses technology to improve safety for military personnel, announced in September that it had won a $12 million U.S. Navy contract to design and develop a restraint system to be used by crew members of fixed and rotary wing aircraft. According to Stuart Nightenhelser, Wolf's VP of Advanced Programs, the aircrew restraint is a reel-based system similar to an automobile seatbelt that keeps members of the aircrew secure as they're moving about to do their jobs.

The U.S. Navy has awarded Northrop Grumman Corp. a contract for follow-yard services for the USS Arliegh Burke class (DDG 51) Aegis destroyer program. The $20.7-million cost-plus-award-fee contract consists of a base year and four option years with a total potential contract value of $75 million if all options are executed. The contract is for technical and engineering support services including Aegis destroyer design upgrades, planning and technical support and crew introduction and orientation. It will also support training initiatives to ensure the pre-commissioning crew can operate and maintain new systems and equipment once the destroyers are put into service.
