After years of learning best practices from each other and the hospitality industry, hospitals lately are teaching employees to work together better with a little help from the aviation industry, NASA and the military.
They're adopting variations on a program created by the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and the Department of Defense. The program, based on the military practice known as crew resource management or CRM, has been rolled out at 25 hospitals nationwide. CRM was initially adopted by the submarine service, NASA, the military and the airline industry in the 1970s.
