OSLO - There's no reason to apologize for supporting U.S. war efforts, American country singer Toby Keith said Friday before performing at the annual Nobel Peace Prize concert.
Keith, whose 2002 saber-rattling hit "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)" was inspired by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, said he stands by President Barack Obama's decision to send 30,000 troops to Afghanistan.

SANDY -- Not to get political with the nasty election season just behind us, but in this case it's irresistible: my first thought about Ruby River Steakhouse was that this is a Republican sort of place.
You've got your large chunks of seared red meat on big platters. You've got your clubby dark woods and five-point-elk-heads-on-the- wall atmosphere. You've even got -- no lie! -- Toby Keith singing "Courtesy of the Red White and Blue" on the jukebox.

Country star Toby Keith continues sellng millions, but not selling out Toby Keith's favorite misconception about himself? "I'm a Democrat,"he laughs during a recent phone conversation from Louisiana. "I think people always hate it when I tell them I voted for Clinton twice. They want me to be the person they think I am.
But the country star's a lot more than most folks believe. Some might want to toss him aside, label him some cowboy-hat-wearing stereotype who sings jingoistic ditties like his huge, yet controversial hit "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)."Keith refuses labels, though, so much so that's he's generated all of his enormous successes without much help from the Nashville factories that make stars out of slick country singers every day.

MARTINSBURG - Brian Tolstyka stood at the edge of a giant American flag spread across several tables in the Veterans Affairs hospital gym. Wearing a leather vest with a flag patch and a hat with a flag pin, Tolstyka was about to stitch his place in history.
Gently clasping a threaded needle between thumb and forefinger, Tolstyka, 43, slipped it into the fabric of a red stripe. The 300 people in the Eastern Panhandle gym clapped. The Persian Gulf War veteran felt a lump in his throat.
