Richard Alred, 47, of Massena, St. Lawrence County, has pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge David G. Larimer to using an interstate facility to entice a minor to engage in illegal sexual conduct.
Alred faces 10 years to life in prison and a fine up to $250,000.

Two companies want on the roofs of public works projects in Missouri and say that an unconstitutional state law is keeping them off.
Lakeside Roofing Co., Shay Roofing Inc. and three of each company's employees filed suit in federal court in St. Louis Sept. 20 claiming that Missouri's Excessive Unemployment Law is unconstitutional. Defendants in the suit include Gov. Jay Nixon, Attorney General Chris Koster, Department of Labor Director Lawrence G. Rebman and St. Louis County. The county has been enforcing the statute, the lawsuit says.

The New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct has determined that Lafayette D. Young Jr., a justice of the Macomb Town Court, St. Lawrence County, should be removed from office.
The reasons are for presiding over eight cases involving his girlfriend's relatives and for engaging in out-of-court communications about the matters with his girlfriend and her relatives.

The New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct has determined that John W. Riordan, a justice of the Gouverneur Town Court, St. Lawrence County, should be admonished for regularly holding court in his chambers, rather than in the courtroom, for approximately seven years.
The commission found that Judge Riordan's chambers contained no space for members of the public to observe the proceedings, which violated a statutory requirement that the court proceedings be public.

Plans to relocate a power line in St. Lawrence County may involve only six acres of remote Adirondack land.
But because the State Constitution protects those six acres as "forever wild," a land swap to improve electricity transmission to a handful of Adirondack residents will require all of the state's voters to consider the proposal.

BANGOR - A volunteer firefighter from Hudson was indicted for arson Monday by the Penobscot County grand jury.
Charles E. St. Lawrence, 18, of Hudson was indicted on two counts of arson for fires in October and April. Vacant buildings were destroyed in both fires.
