  • What Others Are Saying . . . Marty Chapman, President As a business professional you know that the best advertising is often "word of mouth marketing." Word-of-mouth marketing (WOMM), is an unpaid form of promotion-oral or written-in which satisfied customers tell other people how much they like a business, product, service, or event. Word-of-mouth is one of the most credible forms of advertising because people who don't stand to gain personally by promoting something put their reputations on the line every time they make a recommendation. This is why we are happy to announce our most recent website feature - video testimonials. With the increasing use of the Internet as a research and communications platform, word of mouth has become an even more useful tool. At the Chamber, we know th...

  • Single-Member Districts Marty Chapman, President At their June 27th meeting, the Putnam Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors passed a resolution in support of Single-Member Districts. Why is the adoption of single-member districts so important? The primary reasons include the following: West Virginia is out of step with the great majority of other states that guarantee their citizens "One person, one vote." Forty-eight states have equal member districts and forty of those have only single-member districts. WV is one of only two states that have districts with more than three members. Currently, the WV House of Delegates has a mishmash of three-, four-, and as many as seven-member districts. Delegates who represent single-member districts are from the local community and are better k...
