  • HARRINGTON PARK -- More than 70 residents of Hillsdale and Westwood gathered outside United Water's headquarters on Old Hook Road on Monday and called on the utility to change its operating practices. Carrying signs that read "Enough is Enough" and "Stop Flooding Our Homes," the protesters -- ranging in age from 10 to 78 -- earned honks of support from passing motorists as they accused United Water of being unresponsive to complaints of frequent flooding.

  • It was the battle of Ashland County with the small school knocking off the big school. The Wayne County League-leading Falcons were a bit too much for the Ohio Cardinal Conference-leading Arrows as they won 8-4 to highlight area action.

  • HILLSDALE -- Becoming a part of the Pascack Joint Municipal Court could save the borough up to $100,000, officials are hoping. The Borough Council this week approved spending $4,200 on a study to determine if merging court services with Montvale, Woodcliff Lake and Park Ridge would be worthwhile. The borough could see savings of $75,000 to $100,000 from joining the collective court, Mayor Max Arnowitz said.

  • HARRINGTON PARK -- Residents of Hillsdale and Westwood assembled outside United Water's headquarters on Old Hook Road on Tuesday -- for the second time in a month -- and called on the utility to change its operating practices. Some of the more than 25 people on hand -- wielding signs that read "Manmade Flooding is Not Natural," "Find a Solution" and "Stop Flooding Our Neighborhoods" -- said United Water is directly to blame for the flooding in their homes and that the utility does not adequately warn residents before opening the bascule gate.

  • HILLSDALE -- Pascack Valley controlled the first half of Friday's North 1, Group 3 semifinal against Old Tappan. Devin Fuller controlled the second. That, plus another major dose of Old Tappan defense, was the difference as the seventh-seeded Golden Knights earned their second straight trip to the sectional title game with a convincing 34-10 win over No. 3 Pascack Valley.

  • WESTWOOD -- The attorney representing a group of flood-affected Westwood and Hillsdale residents has drafted a letter to the council questioning the integrity of a waterway study being conducted by the borough engineer. Don Maclachlan -- who has been retained by the Hillsdale and Westwood Flood Solution Coordination Group, a consortium of residents living in flood-prone neighborhoods -- delivered the letter on Thursday afternoon.

  • Residents of Glendale Drive in Hillsdale are livid after the rapid flood of the Pascack Brook left them stranded in their homes. The amount of rain Sunday and the amount of flooding they endured early Monday morning does not add up, they say. They blame both United Water, which oversees the Woodcliff Lake reservoir, and the police for not warning them in time.
