The Dubuque County bridge concerns continue, as IIW Engineers has recommended the weight limits be lowered on 24 bridges.
Of the bridges, Derby Grange Road Bridge, located between Hales Mill Road and Herod Lane just west of Dubuque, is the only one officially closed. Dubuque County Engineer Bret Wilkinson said three of the other bridges might be closed six months from now. Wilkinson said signage still needs to be changed for 19 of the bridges, which he expects to be completed within the next month.

The longtime director of the Dubuque County Library was recently fired by the library's board of trustees after a closed session performance review.
While the board said she was not doing an adequate job of running the countywide system, Becky Heil insisted she had been a successful leader and questioned the reasons for her termination. Heil had been in the position for 23 years and had been the system's children's librarian for four years.

The Dubuque County Board of Supervisors approved a rezoning request Monday to allow for the construction of a 6,000-square-foot office building near U.S. 20 and North Cascade Road.
Supervisors Wayne Demmer and Eric Manternach voted to approve the request. Supervisor Donna Smith did not attend the meeting due to illness.
