SEATAC - The politically powerful Washington Education Association endorsed Attorney General Christine Gregoire for governor Saturday, and Democratic rival Phil Talmadge, who finished second, said he may drop out of the race.
Gregoire, the three-term attorney general who leads in the polls and in fund-raising, edged her more liberal rivals for the Democratic nomination, King County Executive Ron Sims and Talmadge, a former state Supreme Court justice, for the coveted endorsement.

SEATTLE (AP) -- Both U.S. senators and five other members of the state's congressional delegation have denounced Southwest Airlines' proposal to leave Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and move to a King County-run airport.
In a letter to King County Executive Ron Sims, the seven Democrats said the plan could waste tax dollars and threaten 3,800 jobs at Seattle-based Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air.

SEATTLE (AP) -- Government leaders with "green" agendas hope to see King County become the first in the nation to join a national market for buying and selling credits to help curb global warming.
County Executive Ron Sims is pushing for the county to join the Chicago Climate Exchange, a market in which the commodity is the reduction of greenhouse gases. He also pushed for a county government commitment to reduce its production of gases that aggravate climate change.

OLYMPIA - Christine Gregoire, gunning to become only the second woman governor in Washington's history, trounced King County Executive Ron Sims in the Democratic primary for governor on Tuesday.
She will face former state Sen. Dino Rossi, who easily won the GOP primary. Both predicted a scrappy campaign and a tight finish. The governor's mansion has been controlled the past 20 years by the Democrats.
