VERNER - Authorities have released the name of a Mingo County man who died after the backhoe he was operating went into the Guyandotte River.
Mingo County Emergency Management Services Director Jarrod Fletcher told The Logan Banner that 91-year-old Opal Perry was killed in the accident that occurred about 6 p.m. Wednesday near Verner.

DINWIDDIE - A storm system that passed through the Tri-Cities Saturday night spawned a tornado that damaged 45 homes in Dinwiddie County and sent one resident to the hospital.
The Dinwiddie Division of Fire and Emergency Management Services said a tornado reported at about 4:40 p.m. on Saturday traveled about eight miles from Doyle Road to the Five Forks area. Officials said the tornado cut a swath of destruction several hundred yards wide in some areas.

Alvin Henderson Jr. will be Allegheny County's acting chief of Emergency Services and fire marshal, effective March 7, county officials announced Wednesday.
Henderson, the county's assistant chief of operations and training, will be taking over for Bob Full, who is leaving to join leadership at the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency. Henderson has spent about seven years with county Emergency Services in two separate stints.
