Attendees of Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers' 22nd Annual International Learned Journals Seminar on Mar 31 filled the headquarters of London's Institution of Mechanical Engineers. The seminar, which was designed to be an overview of the publishing landscape at the start of the 21st century, covered the concerns of both commercial and learned society publishers. Keynoter Mary Waltham, a former publisher for Nature and The Lancet and now a publishing consultant, predicted that the face of publishing will change because of two other factors: the geography of the Internet and the next cycle in computing technology.
