NEW YORK, Aug. 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Bion Environmental Technologies, Inc. (OTC: BNET) and Kreider Farms recently held the grand opening of Bion's livestock waste treatment project that utilizes its patented micro-aerobic digestion technology to reduce environmental impacts to the Chesapeake Bay. The event was held at the Kreider Farms dairy facility in Manheim, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The theme of the event was, "Think Globally...Treat Locally", a strategy that refers to Bion's unique ability to provide low cost treatment and removal of livestock waste nutrients on-site at their source, rather than substantially more expensive treatment downstream.
Runoff of excess nitrogen from agricultural activities, municipal waste treatment plants and an assortment of urban/suburban acti...

WASHINGTON - More than 32 mostly coal-fired power plants in a dozen states will be forced to shut down and an additional 36 might have to close because of new federal air pollution regulations, according to an Associated Press survey.
Together, those plants - some of the oldest and dirtiest in the country - produce enough electricity for more than 22 million households, the AP survey found. But their demise probably won't cause homes to go dark.

Kudos to The New Mexican for your excellent editorial, "Smokescreens from Smokestackers" of Sept. 4, particularly for calling attention to PNM's two old coal-fired plants near the Farmington and Four Corners area. I would like to see PNM implement state-of-the-art technology to reduce pollution emissions. I was encouraged to learn that the true cost of such modernization was reasonable. If large corporations and public utilities don't want regulations coming out of Washington, they should take a proactive approach and do their part to actually protect the environment instead of spending their money on public relations.
In the end, the costs will be passed along to all of us and spread out over many decades so it won't be painful at all. What is real is the pain and suffering from the po...

Dear : I just got word that my 2005 Prius, with 110,000 miles, needs a new hybrid battery. I got the car new, and its been well- maintained, but the battery has not given us the 150,000 or 180,000 miles that we had hoped we could get out of it. Our dealer is willing to replace the battery pack with a new one for $3,500 (another dealer would charge $3,995). Im not sure if a used battery makes sense for a Prius, and Im not sure if we could find a non- dealer with the experience necessary to do the replacement. Does it make sense to move forward and put a new battery pack in the car? We just finished paying for the car, so essentially, well be buying a known entity for $3,500, but its a bitter pill! Your suggestions? Daphne

The Clean Air Act saves lives. Enacted in 1970, the Clean Air Act has succeeded in cutting unhealthy levels of air pollution throughout the country at a reasonable cost.
