  • Ryan Gilbert, Cory Cormier and Patrick Collins scored three goals each as Gray-New Gloucester defeated Massabesic 14-1 Saturday in a high school hockey opener. Gilbert and Cormier assisted on two goals each. Dylan Michaud added two goals and four assists, while Ben Piper also scored twice. Zak Arnold scored the other goal for the Patriots, and Dominic Parent scored for the Mustangs.

  • CAPRON - Tech. Sgt. Roger Garvin Edwards, U.S. Air Force retired, 84, died Nov. 8, 2007. He was born in Southampton County, a son of the late Roger George and Stella Maddox Edwards. Roger was a navigator/gunner on B-24s during World War II and later a missile technician in the Air Force. He also was a retired security officer at the Southampton Correctional Center. He was a member of Adam's Grove Baptist Church.   • PORTLAND - Senior center Cory Cormier scored a pair of goals and an assist as Poland-Gray-New Gloucester skated to a 4-1 triumph over South Portland at the Portland Arena Saturday evening. The Patriotic-Knights (3-2) dominated, taking a 3-0 lead after two periods. Senior center Zach Arnold collected a goal and an assist in the winning effort.

  • Air Force Airman Cory J. Martin graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. The son of Roxann Gray of Elizabethtown, he is a 2008 graduate of Elizabethtown High School.
