The first private employer and third tenant to occupy the new Whitewater Innovation Center has signed a three-year lease for approximately 780 square feet.
Blackthorne Capital Management is a financial start-up company focused on research and development, and employs 11 students and six UW-Whitewater faculty members partnered with the company. Other tenants include Jefferson Eastern Dane Interactive Network, a virtual classroom and distance-learning business, and Cooperative Education Service Agency 2, an educational service agency.

Benton excels The Benton School District was the top scoring school district for the 2008-2009 school year, according to the 2009- 2010 Comprehensive Assessment Report compiled by the Cooperative Educational Service Agency No. 3's Instructional Service Center. Out of 23 categories, Benton was first in 10 categories and placed in the Top 10 in seven more categories -- a total of 17 Top 10 placements out of 23 total categories and 31 school districts.
Five southwest Wisconsin high schools - two in Grant County, two in Lafayette County and one in Iowa County - earned recognition as "America's Best High Schools" from U.S. News & World Report, a national magazine.

Schools in southwest Wisconsin and throughout the state will be receiving educational technology grants.
They include close to $50,000 for the Fennimore/Iowa-Grant consortium, and another $100,000 for Cooperative Educational Service Agency 3, which covers 15 schools in the region. In addition, the Fennimore consortium will receive another $60,000 from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, while CESA 3 will gain another $100,000 from the federal stimulus bill.

The Master Gardeners Training Program is being offered this fall at the Cooperative Educational Service Agency's District 3 office in Fennimore.
The first class is 6 p.m. today. Each class is three hours in length, and there are 12 classes, ending the first part of December. There are two programs available for interested individuals, the general training program and the specialized training program. The specialized program will focus on house plants and flowers.

Gabe Kolesari's retirement interview with the Sussex Sun last week was not a nostalgic goodbye speech. In fact, it's really not good bye at all for Kolesari, whose final day as Village of Sussex Parks and Recreation foreman is Friday. Sure, he won't spend as much time at the Sussex Park and Rec garage joking with his comrades - who have been decorating his desk with cutouts of things like a Roman riding in a chariot with, "Gabe, the early years," written on it since he announced his retirement. If you know Kolesari, you know he hasn't slowed down much at all in his life, and his retirement will be no exception. In fact, after talking to him, it almost seems as if he's shifting into a higher gear to pursue future positions.

A search is under way for a new district administrator for the Fennimore School District.
Dick Feutz, who has served the district for five years, will retire at the end of the current school year. Bill Urban, a former Cooperative Service Educational Agency No. 3 administrator and Fennimore resident, was tapped by the Fennimore School Board as the consultant for the district administrator search.
