This paper applies the sequential Malmquist index to calculate multi-lateral, multi-factor productivity (MFP) indices for agriculture in 16 regions of Bangladesh from 1964 to 1992 and examines convergence amongst regions. Productivity grew at an average rate of 0.9% per annum, led by regions with high level of Green Revolution technology diffusion. The growth mainly occurred due to technological progress estimated at 1.9% per year. Overall technical efficiency declined steadily at 1.0% per year due to falling efficiency in most of the regions in later years. Both cross-section and time-series tests confirm that divergence among regions disappeared and agricultural productivity reached convergence in the long-run. Policy options to reverse declining efficiency are considered. These inclu...

The study carries out a review of theoretical and methodological possibility to identify and build a minimal (consistent and complete) list of criteria for real economic convergence aimed at to assess the status of real economic convergence in the European Union. The essence of the study is to identify the necessary and sufficient predicates of macro-economic indicators that allow us to qualify them as criteria for real economic convergence. In the end, some methodological issues are developed and applied. To be sure on the accuracy of research, the sufficient predicates are examined concerning their independence, consistency and completeness. Based on these predicates, thorough examinations of the correlation between the process of real convergence and the nominal convergence is carrie...

RECENTLY, Malaysia launched the `' programme, with ESG standing for the environmental, social and governmental criteria. Timely, as this will serve as preparation to handle the world's volatile economic and environmental situation within the principles of sustainability and accountability. In this final of a two-part series, we take a look.
ESG 2020 sees it fitting that other than awareness, plans of action to make the campaign more efficacious should be in place. Proactive undertakings involving identifying and selecting key socio- economic areas (KSA) can be focused on and given attention to for propagation and creating visibility. Good governance comprises accountability and transparency along with the current socioeco- system requirements of efficiency, inn...
