With a box full of carrots and a hankering for something vaguely exotic, Mary-Claire van Leunen turned to her computer for a recipe.
I looked for 'Turkish carrots' and I found it easily, in fact I found half a dozen," said the retired Seattle software researcher.

BRUCE GOLDING, prime minister of Jamaica, shares an intriguing relationship with Christopher '[Dudus]' Coke, the 'President' of Tivoli Gardens.
Many of those who are close to Dudus say he abhors politics and avoids politicians, since his brother, Mark 'Jah Coke, and then his father, Lloyd 'Jim Brown' Coke, died tragically in 1992.
So, while no losers emerged from the 2005 arrangements, the big winner was Christopher 'Dudus' Coke. Golding may not be Coke's best pal, but he is certainly indebted to him in a big way.

In Bogota, groups such as sports organizations, the Boy and Girl Scouts, Kiwanis, the volunteer Fire Department and the ambulance squad form what borough historian Henry Komorowski calls "whole mini- communities. There's no such thing as outsiders here. If you want to be an insider, just show up.
Komorowski, whose wife grew up in Bogota, has lived in the town for more than 40 years, and his four children all went through the local schools. He considers the strength of Bogota to be its small- town quality coupled with proximity to New York City, which is easily accessible by car or bus. Because Route 95 passes just beyond the edge of the borough, many residents commute to the city, says Komorowski, listing "musicians, policemen from Port Authority, manual skilled tradesmen, executives, ...

It is also pertinent to stress that the need for this negative group designation is not always as straightforward as "black" and "white." For example, less economically advantaged Eastern Europeans seeking (competing for) employment in Western Europe find themselves lumped in the same group and subject to all sorts of classifications. An Arab reader from London sent me an email demanding that I explain myself for collaborating on various projects with some well...
