Much information has been publicized about the How's Corner Superfund site in Plymouth over the years. Here is a tidbit that I'm sure won't get written about: The How's Corner site group recently solicited bids for the construction of a groundwater treatment system as remedial action at the site. Detailed plans and contract specifications were provided by an engineering firm. Bonding was required to ensure contractor performance.
The group received three bids, all from qualified, reputable and competent local contractors. All three bidding companies are general contractors whose primary expertise is earthwork. For no apparent reason, other than name recognition or lack thereof, the group has selected the highest bidder to perform the work.

CLINTON -- The town will appraise Camp Hadar's market value, draft a purchase contract and calculate the tax consequences of bonding costs in preparation for a public hearing on the proposed $3.3 million purchase of the 97-acre park. Selectmen have approved the purchase of the former camp, owned by brothers David and Samuel Fischer, as the town's first major open space acquisition.

The Oregon Construction Contractors Board for the first time in 25 years is updating the forms contractors use to apply for surety bonds.
The new forms are the result of House Bill 3242, passed by the 2007 Legislature, which splits the state's licensing applications and requirements into commercial and residential categories. The contractors board today will meet with construction bonding and insurance companies to hammer out the contract wording on the new forms before the requirements kick in for new licensees Jan. 1. The changes won't go into effect for renewal licenses until July.
