Continuing vocational training
-
As governor of Maine, John McKernan made continuing education a top priority. In 1993, he launched a vocational training program in Maine's public high schools. He published a book in 1994 calling for better education of "the middle half of the high school" -- that is, graduates who aren't headed for four-year degree programs but still need job training.
Now he's getting the chance to test his theories as chief executive of Education Management, one of the largest for-profit higher education companies in North America.

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS Acting Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Maloney laid out starkly different future paths for state government in separate presentations to the West Virginia Chamber of Commerces Business Summit. Tomblin talked of continuing on a steady course that in recent years has led to budget surpluses, lower taxes and reduced debts. Weve been able to set our path right, he said. Justice serves fairness
THE WALL STREET occupiers are protesting the wrong thing. They should not be protesting inequality; it is the inevitable result of the fact that not all men are created equal - some are born with gifts that others lack. What they should be protesting is that not all men are treated equally before the law.
