LINCOLN - The man accused of killing a 2-year-old Lincoln boy received a continuance of his preliminary hearing on Thursday so he can hire a lawyer.
Ty Cline, 38, appeared in Logan County Court for the first time since being charged with one count of murder in the death of Lucas Alberts.

Discharged employee appealed his denial of unemployment compensation by the Unemployment Compensation Review Commission, claiming that he was denied his right to have witnesses testify on his behalf in the review hearing. Although the employee claims he was not provided with sufficient time to request subpoenas for his witnesses, the record shows that he received instructions on how to subpoena witnesses more than two months before the hearing date and the employee failed to timely request subpoenas or to request a continuance of the hearing. Judgment affirmed.

If Westmoreland County prosecutors have to ask for a third continuance of a hearing for three men accused of beating a homeless man in Hempfield last year, the case likely will be thrown out, a district judge said Tuesday.

MANCHESTER, Iowa - A continuance hearing for the Manchester man accused of cutting his father's pacemaker from his chest was postponed Monday, because the judge assigned to the case could not be there.
The hearing for Jesse Fierstine, 34, was rescheduled to 10 a.m. Monday, March 28, in Delaware County District Court.

Mother appealed the decision and this court affirmed. Mother's assignments of error argued that the trial court abused its discretion in granting a continuance of a hearing in permitting the guardian ad litem to "reopen" the case, and in failing to consider that the father had allegedly tainted the child's interview.
